Transitions:

It’s the beginning of August, we still have another month, or at least a few weeks left of summer.
But come Labor Day, everything changes and then it’s September and we are thinking of fall.  It’s back to school time for anyone with kids, or is a kid, or just feels like a kid!  The air will change, the days start getting shorter, and we subconsciously start preparing for colder months ahead.

This is the biggest transition time of the year.  In the world of Fashion, the fall collections are eagerly being anticipated!

But you’re still wearing your maxi dresses and sandals, even though in the stores we are starting to see the fabulous fall styles’ making a sneak preview, outside the sun shines and it is still beach weather!

How do you stretch those final summer days and still look forward to fall fashion?

Transitions are the best time for playing.  This is a great time to start to experiment with some of the ideas out there that you see without fully committing to anything.

In my opinion, starting with accessories is always the easiest way.

If you see a trend that you love find it in a scarf or a great bracelet, or a pair of shoes.  Any of these items will have some versatility so if you find that you are not completely in love with the full look you were after you can always use these pieces in other ways.  It’s also easier to mix fall touches to an outfit that is originally intended for the summer months.

Layering pieces are another key to transitions.  A light cardi that can be thrown over a tank and shorts, even in a fall color will look appropriate and very NOW.  Skinny pants, great for layering, look like less so in a lighter color completely work for a summer ensemble but are the key to your fall wardrobe!

Start looking through the magazines, finding the looks that you’re drawn to.  Ask yourself why?  Is it the color, the style, the silhouette, or the way things are put together?  If you can figure out what element is the most powerful for you that is the idea you can start incorporating into your style now!

What is the first fall fashion you are going to start playing with?
